Butterfly not-so-Wonderland

August 25, 2013by kevinearl Leave a comment

Going to a Butterfly Wonderland sounds amazing, like a dream, but for me it fell a bit flat. Perhaps that’s my problem. I am an optimist who dreams big. When […]

My Instagram

I wanted to take the kids to Antelope Island before bug season and leaf season, so they could see the porcupines, and it was a success. They brought some friends, and we went in Justin's new RV. We saw two porcupines, hundreds of bison, deer, a great horned owl, and just some lovely scenery and spectacular views.
My friend, Erin, is so talented! She recently shared a pic of this sketch she had done that I immediately loved, so now it's in my collection. I love the perspective of looking down through the saguaros and blooming palo verde trees at the tortoise making its way through the desert. It is now ready for proper display in my new home (when I move next week). Be sure to follow her art account, @artoferindinnellbjorn .
Edit: Didn't realize it only posted like 20 seconds of the video, so to see the full thing, friends, visit my Facebook.
Bryce Canyon in winter = Amazing!
My textile souvenirs from Ecuador (minus some patches) including an alpaca (mixed fiber) scarf and poncho, a woven scarf, one woven belt, and one embroidered belt (neither belt will be used as belts rather as straps). Also, I got a pair of handmade shoes with woven sides and soles made from recycled coconut husks and coffee grounds. My other souvenirs include premium chocolate and a carved wooden tortoise that I got from the artist who was one of a handful carving larger sculptures in the town square as part of Puerto Ayora's 50th anniversary celebration.
What an amazing four days in Quito and it's surrounding highlands!
Made it to Miami and took an airboat ride in the Everglades. Alligators are awesome!
Yesterday, our last full day in Ecuador, we first stopped to smell the roses at a local rose farm. Did you know Ecuador is one of the leading producers and exporters of roses in the world? Farms cover the landscape in areas north and south of Quito. You can buy a bunch of 25 roses for $1 on the streets all around Ecuador's capital city! Our tour of the Akarana Farm was fascinating.
Waterfalls and swinging at the edge of the world energized us on our day trip to Banos. Videos coming soon!
